We know that an inclusive business makes us stronger. That’s why we’ve introduced various initiatives to create a friendly, welcoming and fair work environment. As well as encouraging more women to take leadership roles, we’ve also supported the development of a range of employee groups, such as our Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT), Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) and working parents networks. Creating an environment where everyone feels welcome and appreciated for their unique contribution helps us retain great people. Most importantly of all we’re doing it because, simply, it’s the right thing to do.

Our professional women's network

Our professional women's network is designed to inspire women at Phoenix to achieve their full potential by helping to break down the workplace barriers that often stand in their way. Our female colleagues have access to mentoring schemes, regular networking opportunities and online communities. All the support they need to further their career.

We were one of the first UK companies to sign up to the Women in Finance Charter. This means that we've set ourselves targets for gender diversity and we're committed to regularly reporting on our progress. As a woman at Phoenix, you'll have access to an accelerated development programme that is designed to help you build your confidence and plan your career, as we look to create a larger pool of female candidates for our leadership roles.

Our working
parents network

Balancing the demands of being a parent with the challenges of work can be tough. Our working parents network offers our people the resources, advice and support they need to build a rewarding career alongside a fulfilling family life. The ultimate aim is to ensure that working parents at Phoenix are supported, encouraged and empowered to enjoy life both at work and at home.

As a member of the working parents network, you'll have the chance to connect with a supportive community that understands the issues you're facing. You'll benefit from a series of regular networking sessions on a range of topics, together with information on everything that Phoenix can offer working parents and carers.

Our LGBT network

We all want to be ourselves at work. If you’re Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual or Transgender, you can sometimes feel unsure that colleagues and management will treat you the same as everyone else. Our LGBT network provides a forum for identifying and questioning LGBT colleagues to meet and support each other. We also welcome friends and allies to the network who want to help support the inclusion of LGBT colleagues or who understand relevant issues through their LGBT friends or family.

The network is there to support Phoenix in providing a safe and supportive working environment which makes LGBT inclusion an integral part of our culture. This includes the development of easily accessible LGBT education and guidance for managers, review of people policies to ensure they fairly reflect relevant LGBT issues, further development of the Phoenix LGBT intranet site and ensuring support is available when it is needed. Joining the network will help us make a difference.


Embracing our
cultural diversity

Employing people from a variety of backgrounds, cultures and beliefs brings a diversity of thinking to our business. We recognise the contribution that people from different faiths make to Phoenix and the wider community and encourage understanding between people from religious and non-religious backgrounds.

Currently around 15% of our people are from a Black, Asian or Minority Ethnic (BAME) background, which is why we recently launched our BAME network. It offers a forum where you can share experiences and gain support to further your career at Phoenix. Our multi-faith prayer room and week-long inter-faith celebration are just some of the ways we're embracing the multi-cultural make-up of Phoenix. As we promote a tolerant, welcoming environment where everyone lives and works to a shared set of values.

Supporting disability
and wellbeing

We're committed to giving people the tools they need to encourage good physical and mental wellbeing. As well as providing access to flu jabs and other health checks, we also offer healthy meal options at our onsite restaurants. Through free or subsidised sports facilities, relaxation rooms and quiet areas we aim to help our people stay fit, healthy and productive.

You'll benefit from the wide range of health and wellbeing related events we hold each year. From advising on quitting smoking and handling stress, to training people as Dementia Friends through our link with the Alzheimer's Society and holding the annual 'Phoenix Mile' charity event. It is one of the reasons why, last year, we were ranked 10th in the 'Britain's Healthiest Employer' section of 'Britain's Healthiest Workplace'.
