Making the move to Phoenix offers you the exciting prospect of building your actuarial knowledge and expertise in a unique setting, with the UK's largest closed life fund consolidator and one of 'Britain’s Top Employers'. We're industry experts, but we're always looking for ways to be better. You can help us to move forward by joining our talented actuarial teams, who are a vital part of both our day-to-day and longer-term strategic successes.

The Role:

Under the guidance of more experienced team members, you'll contribute to the ongoing workload of different actuarial teams, whilst at the same time studying for the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries fellowship examinations in line with an agreed study plan. Working across finance, actuarial, customer and risk functions, with rotations between departments, your development plan will focus on becoming a senior actuarial analyst by acquiring the necessary level of job skills and actuarial techniques needed to successfully progress.

What we’re looking for:

As an aspiring "actuary of the future", you may have already started to make progress with the CT actuarial exams and ideally have some relevant industry experience. You should be comfortable with analysing data, have strong Excel and IT skills, and be able to demonstrate your passion and potential for an actuarial career (ideally with a minimum 2:1 honours degree in a numerical discipline).

We'll expect you to be able to cope with change, be commercially aware, and be able to plan and prioritise your work effectively. You'll also need to be a confident verbal and written communicator, and be comfortable with building effective relationships with a variety of stakeholders.

It's important that you can quickly understand the wider commercial context of financial information which you're analysing and can communicate effectively with those around you; this job is definitely not for those who want to crunch numbers in isolation! We expect our actuarial teams to be inquisitive, to challenge the status quo and to be collaborative in their approach, and to apply their common sense to a problem to arrive at an appropriate solution.

If you can demonstrate that you fit our requirements, then in return, you can expect an excellent benefits package, full study support for your actuarial exams and real opportunity for career growth. Phoenix Group has a strong culture of personal development and employee engagement – we care about the progression and fulfilment of our people, and if there's something you need to help develop your skills to get you ready for even more exposure as you become more experienced, we're keen to work with you to make that happen.

About us:

We value our employees highly and have been certified as one of 'Britain's Top Employers' for the last 7 consecutive years and are a member of the FTSE 250 index. We put people first in everything we do and are always looking for new professionals to join our talented teams.  Our funds are closed, enabling us to focus on areas that other businesses can't. This means that, among the many benefits of working at Phoenix (such as our incredible Wythall location and excellent rewards scheme), our staff can enjoy exposure to a diverse workload not found elsewhere. If you're looking for intellectually challenging work in a unique environment, a career at Phoenix could be just what you've been looking for!

Flexible working

Flexible working at Phoenix is: "A lifestyle that fuses your personal and professional life." We believe in a culture of flexibility, depending on the role we may be able to offer working arrangements that suit your needs. In today's world of work/life challenges we recognise getting this right is important to our employees and the success of our business.

Examples of this may include but are not exclusive to the following:

  • Part-time: You would work less than full-time hours for the business, perhaps by working fewer days or hours per week.
  • Flexible hours: Still working your contracted hours, you would have flexibility to start and finish within agreed core working times.
  • Job share: Where the role allows you would voluntarily share the duties of one full-time position with another colleague, splitting the hours on a pro-rata basis.
  • Home working: You would undertake some, or all, of your working duties from home or anywhere else other than the standard allocated place of work (including other Phoenix locations).
